- Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)
- Many of the few people who heard about Wikisource think that it's just a collection of old books. This talk will present several projects which will show that it is much more than that: Encyclopedia Britannica 1911 – You may have heard that it's outdated and racist, but in some ways it is better than Wikipedia and even better than the modern online version of Britannica; Malayalam Wikisource projects in Kerala schools – How usage of Wikisource changes the way literature is taught; Gesenius' Hebrew Grammar – How a book published in the 19th century with so many cross-references that it should have been a website, is finally realizing its potential and starts a new life, helping students and professors all over the world. This talk will also show how recent improvements in MediaWiki's internationalization technologies, such as WebFonts, are taking Wikisource even further in making knowledge and cultural assets accessible in ways hardly imaginable in the past.
