Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)

Over the last couple of years, a growing number of chapters, volunteer groups and individual volunteers have started Education Programs in their country. Today, Wikipedians in Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Germany, India, Israel, Macedonia, Mexico, the U.K., and the United States are working hand in hand with university instructors to incorporate teaching with Wikipedia into the curriculum. People from several other countries are planning to start classroom based university initiatives in the near future.

This session brings together those who want to share their experiences with Wikipedia in higher education and those who would like to hear what others have done in this field, including chapters or other groups who are thinking about getting active in the field of "Wikipedia in Higher Education".

This session will offer answers to the following questions:

  • What was your biggest success story?
  • How did the integration of Wikipedia into the curriculum work?
  • What worked well? What didn't?
  • Which tools or materials that you used were most successful?
  • Which tools or materials could have made your work and/or the work of the students and instructors easier?
  • What are the most important lessons learned that you would like to share with others?

Each country representative will have 5–10 minutes to present their "recipe" for using Wikipedia as a teaching tool in higher education. The rest of the time will be used for a discussion with the participants of this session.

Our goal overall will be to come up with a "Cookbook for teaching with Wikipedia" that we can share with those Wikipedians who can't make it to Wikimania in Washington D.C.
